Florida restricts travel to Iran

Posted by WynD on July 6, 2008

On July 1, 2008, a new Florida law restricting travel to any of the five US deemed “state sponsors of terror,” took effect (countries include: N. Korea, Iran, Sudan, Syria, and Cuba; N. Korea is soon to be removed from this list, per President Bush).

Under this law, “any travel agent selling travel for one of these countries to a Florida resident must certify in advance of the sale and pay a registration fee ranging from $1,000 to $2,500. The agent will also be required to post a security bond ranging from $100,000 to $250,000. Agents who do not comply with the law could face a high fine, as well as a third-degree felony conviction.”

Opponents are arguing the law to be illegal, as it restricts travel by US citizens, which is protected under US Federal Law.

My wife is from a very pro western family in Iran and they wish only that the relationship between our two countries get better although everyone hopes that the religeous government in Iran is overthrown. I have known many military people who spent years in Iran and to the last of them they all say how sweet the Iranian people are. we all know in order for the current Iraian government to fall the people from within iran will have to step up, so the idea would be to make western culture seem more friendly instead of making life harder for the irainians who have clearly decided to make the U.S. home. This policy of punishing people who agree with western values is exactly the opposite of the tact that should be taken. Waht happened to freedom?
